Get to Know Jesus

Our top priority at Laughlintown Christian Church is to follow Jesus. We have come to trust that Jesus is what it looks like for God's perfect love to express itself in a human life.
This isn't the sort of thing that we could say about anyone else. All of our heroes have their flaws, and the more we get to know them, the more we see how they fall short. Only Jesus has inspired those who knew him--and those who have studied his story for thousands of years--to decide that this human is without sin, this human perfectly blends grace with truth, this human is Lord and God.
And this human calls us to follow him. We will never fully succeed in being like Jesus. But as we try to follow Jesus, we reflect the light that he shone.
as we try to follow Jesus, we reflect the light that he shone
Following Jesus means trying to approach life the way he did. That's harder than it sounds. Jesus' life showed us that God's love doesn't always express itself in just one way. Sometimes, Jesus showed love by speaking kindly in gentle acceptance. Sometimes, Jesus showed love by speaking harshly in firm rebuke. Sometimes, Jesus showed love by not speaking at all.
That's why Christians have to spend so much time in Scripture and in prayer. We have to get to know Jesus. We have to learn to see life the way he saw it, to learn to listen to his voice. Sunday worship is just the beginning. Find time today, every day, to read or reflect on Jesus' story, and think about what it would be like to really live like Him.
