He who seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. Jesus
Jesus came so that we might "have life, and have it more abundantly" John 10:10. It's what God has been up to all along--bringing us life.
In the story of Jesus, however, we learn something that may surprise us. We learn that the road to life, lies in the willingness to lose our life. We learn that the road to joy and peace, lies in taking up our cross and embracing the suffering of a broken world. We learn that the road to a fulfilled self, is giving up our preoccupation with self, and embracing the good of others, of the world itself.
The world is not wrong to want life, and joy, and peace, and fulfillment. But without Jesus, the world might now know the mysterious truth that we do not gain life, joy, peace, and fulfillment by striving hard enough, but by surrendering to the grace of a life-giving God.
...we do not gain life, joy, peace, and fulfillment by striving hard enough, but by surrendering to the grace of a life-giving God..
Because of the resurrection of Jesus, we know that life comes from trusting God. None of us are very good at this, but we practice it together, following the example Jesus has given us.
Join us this Sunday on that wonderful journey!
